Our pup Finn howls when he hears sirens, so I thought he would be super cute in a firefighter costume for Halloween. Of course, I decided this three days before Halloween, so I figured out how to make him a costume from things around the house.

Here’s what I used:

• red swim shorts, outgrown by my boys
• neon yellow shoe laces
• fabric paint

Here’s how I did it:

• Cut open the inside seam between the legs (first picture below)
• Cut out the lining
• Sew the back seam into a straight line
• Cut holes for the front legs (second picture below)
• Trim the front, so the costume does not reach anywhere near when your pup pees 🙂
• Paint on a firefighter logo (third picture below)
• Sew on stripes with the shoe laces

Here’s a picture of the finished costume from the side to give you an idea of the shape. The back should be straighter, but I was making up as I went, and I had to alter it after I had already painted.
