We recently moved into our new house, and I’ve been busy arranging and re-arranging things to get us settled. In this process, I was fortunate to receive a beautiful new sideboard cabinet from Hernest.com. This item was generously gifted, but the content and opinions here are all my own. As I experimented with incorporating this pretty cabinet into our new home, I thought I’d share some variations with you.

I’ve heard that “If you choose items you love, they will work together,” and I hope this is true, because my home is a mix of Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Glamour, Chinoiserie Chic, Coastal, and a touch of Bohemian… If you pick larger furniture items that are classic, you can really take your decorating in any direction, so I shopped my own home to show five ways you can style a cabinet!
I was drawn to the Modern Buffet Cabinet from Hernest because of the simple clean lines of the top, balanced with the touch of glam gold on the base. Also, it comes in my favorite color, navy blue! I like the petite scale and storage function of this piece for our new home, because we’ve downsized into a smaller space. The cabinet does come in a larger size, too, if that works better for your home. Without further ado, here are some of the ways I have enjoyed styling my new sideboard!

Hollywood Glamour Home Bar
I’m still as mad about Mid-Century Glamour as when we celebrated with a Mad Men party several years ago. I no longer have the home bar I DIY’ed for our rental house, but I recreated some of my favorite parts of that here. This look also features the vintage mirror that I refinished with an antiqued gold look.

California Coastal Console Table
Living by the water, it feels natural to reflect our surroundings with items inspired by the ocean. Last year, I created canvases from a photo I took near our rental home. I knew I wanted to have them as a souvenir of that special adventure. The scene is complemented by accessories in blue, green, and white.

Chinoiserie Chic Sideboard Display
I’m a lifelong member of Team Blue-and-White! My collection of ginger jars and other blue-and-white ceramics comes from my grandmother’s home, antique stores, and flea markets. When they are displayed together, they make a big impact! The artwork is a painting by my mom!

Plant-lovers Paradise
It’s funny to think how many years I spent with a “brown thumb” and almost no plants in our home. When I fell in love with fiddle leaf figs, I put a lot of energy and focus into learning how to care for them, and my obsession with plants has grown (haha!) from there. Here are some of my favorite green friends all hanging out in a beautiful urban jungle vignette!

Elegant Vanity Table
This cabinet is in our bedroom, which makes it the perfect place to set up a little dressing area (though not a perfect place for the bar :)). Here’s the vintage mirror I painted, along with a jewelry board I made.

Which look is your favorite??
Thanks again to the team from Hernest for the gifted item. I was happy with the quality of my cabinet, the hidden storage it provides, the way it looks in my home. If you are checking them out, here are some more items from my wishlist:
- Elegant white and gold desk – I am drooling over this for my home office!
- Modern Chest of Drawers – this would look so sharp in any of our bedrooms for extra storage!
- Marble Side Table – you can never have enough side tables, in my opinion, and this one is so pretty!
Here’s how the new cabinet is looking in real life – I love the way the afternoon light shines in on this room!

Cheers,
Julie AKA “Jewels”
