DIY Mantel Garland Tips

You know how much I love decorating for Christmas and the winter holidays! This year, I spied a great tutorial for a DIY mantel garland from Erin Zubot Design. Erin has made an incredible home, and she is a fellow Canadian! I used her tips to make my garland this year, and I love how it turned out. The secret sauce is adding extra greenery and decor that you might not have thought was “Christmas.”

I followed Erin’s steps, using supplies I already had at home, and I love the results!

Step 1: Place Command hooks on the mantel – mine are in the center and on either end

Step 2: Add a simple base garland.

Step 3: Add a better quality garland over top

Step 4: Add lights (Dog is optional :))

The steps up to now are pretty intuitive, and I have done similar things in years part. What I love is the next step, where you forage in your closet and find other greenery and decorations that you might not have thought of. I found some faux eucalyptus and other branches that I think came with a balloon garland kit. I use them for our tablescape at Thanksgiving and other holidays, and it hadn’t occurred to me to use them for Christmas! I also added the felt poinsettias I made a few years ago for our tree. These have alligator clips on the back, so they are easy to add to the garland. I placed them over the red berries in the garland, to deemphasize those for this year’s green-and-white decor.

Here are some pics of my finished garland!

Happy Holidays!
